    Morning excursion to Taktshang Lhakhang or Tiger nest (approx 5 hrs treking), perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro Valley floor , it is undoubtedly one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries. Lore has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery thus the name ‘Tiger’s Nest’. General Information of Bhutan:

  1. Area, 38394 sq kms
  2. Bhutan maintains, the policy of strictly limiting the numbers of people who can visit the country in a single year, and all visitors are charged for the tourist services. (hotels, meals, guides, transport etc) at a fixed daily rate. This has helped Bhutanese earn the foreign currency that they require for the various development work. The only way to visit Bhutan as a member of a tour group, which is organized through a recognized travel agency. 

  3. Entering Bhutan, The only practical way for tourists to enter Bhutan is by air. Bhutan Airlines & Druk air the Bhutanese flag carrier flies from Kathmandu, Delhi, Calcutta, Bangkok, Bagdogra, Singapore & Dhaka.

  4. Geography, Lies east of Nepal and south of Tibet. It is a land locked country surrounded by mountains to the north and west. The altitude range in between 1000 ft to 17000 ft. The altitude of the capital city Thimphu is 7,700 ft.

  5. Population, Bhutan’s indigenous population is the Drukpa and it is about 7.98 Lakhs. Three main ethnic groups, the Sharchops, Ngalops and the Lhotshampas (of Nepalese origin) make up today’s Drukpa.

  6. Precautions, Avoid drinking unboiled water or taking ice cubes at all times as most water sources in Bhutan are untreated though they have their source in the mountains. One can come across treated and bottled water readily in any town and are affordable.

  7. Office Hours, Office hours in Bhutan are divided into two timings – the summer timing and the winter timing. The summer timing begins at 9AM Bhutan standard time and goes on till 5Pm in the evening. The summer timing is followed from March till the end of October. The winter timing that lasts for the months of November till the end of February begins at 9AM in the morning till 4 PM in the evening. However, these timings are followed only in Thimphu and few other Districts.  These timing is followed only by the Civil Servants who work under the Royal Civil Service Commission. For those people employed in Corporations and private organizations, the timings are usually from 9AM till 5PM irrespective of the season.

  8. Clothing, It is advisable to bring along warm clothing while traveling from November to February. In summer the temperature is 29-31degree centigrade, during the day time, 12-14 degree centigrade during night time. In winter the day temperature is 22 to 24 degree centigrade during the day time and 0 to -4 degree centigrade during the night time.

  9. Credit Card, Main hotels, restaurants and shopping centers honor all major credit cards

  10. Currency, Bhutanese currency is the Ngultrum (NU). Dollars and travellers cheque are acceptable in large hotels and tourist shops. 1 NU is 100 Chetrum.

  11. Electricity, In Bhutan, electricity runs 220/240 volts. If you do bring electrical appliances, take along an international converter kit complete with a set of adaptor plugs

  12. Health, No vaccinations are currently required for traveling to Bhutan. However if you are traveling into Bhutan from some epidemic infected areas you required to have vaccinations..

  13. Language, The contrasting ethnic diversity of Bhutanese people has meant that number of different languages and dialects are spoken throughout the kingdom. The national language is Dzongkha, Which is taught in all schools.

  14. Photography,  Tourists should seek permission from the authorities concerned before taking photographs of places of military importance, railway stations, bridges, airports, military installations, metro trains, tribal areas and sensitive border regions. It is prohibited to take photographs in some of the temples, historical monuments, forts, palaces, tombs and monasteries. Camera fee is charged extra in some historical monuments.

  15. Religion, Bhutan is the only country in the world to retain the tartaric form of Mahayana Buddhism

  16. Shopping, Beware of roadside vendor, always prefer government approve shops only like the Central Cottage Industries, Emporia (most major cities have one) for fixed prices and a fair idea of the cost with a regular dealer. Plz note: Trading in ivory, fur, animal skins, antiquities and the like is illegal. If you must have it, obtain a certificate of legitimate sale and permission for export before leaving the country.

  17. Emergency,  Always keep a medical kit with you when you travel to India and stock up on aspirins, diarrhea tablets, insect cream, salt tablets and other first-aid essentials. 

  18. Tobacco/Smoking, We have a duty to protect Bhutan from Drugs and Tobacco Products. To do this we need your help and cooperation. If we stop you and ask you about your baggage please co-operate.

  19. Clothes and other paraphernalia, With great altitudinal variations weather is quite erratic in Bhutan. So be prepared to brace the erratic weather as you step outdoor.  We expect visitors to dress modestly and respectfully especially if you are planning a visit to the monasteries, Dzongs and other religious institutions. As a mark of respect, be kind enough to remove your hats, caps etc. as you enter religious and administrative premises, institutions and in any other place that you come across with the national flag being raised.

  20. Do's & Dont's, Do carry attested photocopies of your travel documents and keep the originals in a safely locked baggage. Do fill up a Currency Declaration Form along and a Disembarkation Card besides making an oral declaration of the luggage you are carrying. Do not smoke in public places, Do not give money to beggars.

  3. Once Guest / Travel agent make the payment it’s indicate that the guest interested in our tour and has read and accepted all the terms and conditions mentioned on the “Sumanya Travel Services Pvt Ltd”. Brochure / website / booking form.

  4. In case of a guest / travel agent process booking in behalf of their family, friend or for any guest, has been authorized to do so by the concern person (guest travelling) after reading all the terms and conditions mentioned on the brochure / website / booking form. 

Bhutan Visa:

For Indian, A route permit will be issued upon arrival after producing a valid Passport or a Voters's Card issued by Election Commission of India. All foreigners except citizen of India, Bangladesh and Maldives require Visa to visit Bhutan. However Voter Identity proof is required to show that you are citizen of India.

In order to process Bhutan visa we require clear readable color copy of passport (page containing passport no and face picture in JPEG or PDF format) at least 30 days prior to date of entry into Bhutan along with full tour payment. Remaining validity of passport should be at least 6 months from the date of entry into Bhutan (excluding the travelling month).

Tourism Council of Bhutan issues visa clearance letter closer to travelling date which we email or fax you or your local travel agent. Travellers are required to produce aforesaid visa clearance copy at the time of check-in for Druk Air flight while those entering Bhutan by surface via Phuentsholing or Samdrup Jonkhar, they are required to produce this Visa Clearance letter at the Immigration counter. Actual visa is stamped on passport on arrival in Bhutan.

**Guests are required to have multiple entry visa for India if they are travelling to Bhutan from India and again re-entering into India from Bhutan. Please also check if your Indian visa has ‘2 months re-entry restriction’. If restriction has been stamped in your Indian visa, you have to get it endorsed by Indian embassy in Thimphu also but you need to be in Thimphu on working days, Mon – Fri during office time excluding govt holidays, to allow you to re-enter India. You will be asked to provide the proof of your travel to Bhutan (Druk air booking etc).

 

Weather:

It has four distinct seasons. The southern plains close to the Indian border are warmer and more tropical than higher central valleys. the winter months are fiercely cold subsiding around the end of February. The annual monsoon affects the south and central regions.

Best time to visit Bhutan, October to December is the ideal time to visit Bhutan as the air is clear and fresh with sunny skies. January and February are colder, but from then until April the climate remains dry and pleasant and in late spring the famous rhododendrons bloom spectacularly, flooding the valleys with color.

In Southern Bhutan, the climate is tropical in the monsoon season and may range from 15 degree Celsius in winter to 30 degree Celsius in summer. ... The centre enjoys sub-tropical climate with very cool winters while the northern parts of the country have harsh climate including snowfall two to three times every winter.

Transportation:

We appointed latest and comfortable aircon transport of all our guest. Types of vehicle depend on no of guest travelling.

Aircon Vehicle is not required in Bhutan, however if clients specially request USD 10 per day per pax additional cost apply.

Customs:

The following articles are exempt from duty:

  1. Personal effects and articles for day to day use by the visitor
  2. 1 litre of alcohol (spirits or wine)
  3. 200 cigarettes, on payment of import duty of 200%
  4. Instruments, apparatus or appliances for professional use
  5. Photographic equipment, video cameras and other electronic goods for personal use

You have to complete the passenger declaration form on your arrival before checking out. The articles mentioned under (d) & (e) must be declared on the declaration form. If any such items are disposed of in Bhutan by sale or gift, they are liable for customs duty.

On departure, visitors are required to surrender their forms to the Customs authorities. Import/export restrictions of the following goods is strictly prohibited:

  1. Arms, ammunitions and explosives
  2. All narcotics and drugs except medically prescribed drugs
  3. Wildlife products, especially those of endangered species
  4. Antiques Imports of plants, soils etc. are subject to quarantine regulations. These items must be cleared on arrival. Visitors are advised to be cautious in purchasing old and used items, especially of religious or cultural significance, as such items may not be exported without a clearance certificate.

Hotels:

Hotels vary in style and quality from town to town. All government approved hotels are clean and well maintained. In Thimpu and Paro and central districts all hotels are equipped with telephones, fax machines and international dialing.

  1. Single Occupancy
    Single guest provided with single occupancy/single bedded room have to pay single room supplement apart from the tour package cost.
  1. Check-in and Check-out time 
    For Bhutan normally, check-in time is 12 noon and check-out time is 10 am.
    For international tours, generally the check-in time is 3 p.m. and check-out time is at 12 noon.

           Plz note: If guest wants any change therein, like early check-in /out, he/she will have to manage the same on his/her own with hotel authorities on
           payment of additional charges.

Restaurants:

Traditional Bhutanese food is very hot and spicy. The food given to tourists is tempered to western taste and includes western dishes. Evening meals are invariably buffet style and served in the dinning rooms of the hotels.

  1. We have tie-up with the reputed restaurant in city, keeping in mind of guest safety and hygienic. While, we endeavour to select the best quality restaurants for en-route Meals halts in terms of food, sanitation facilities, hygiene, and service.
  1. However the company has no direct control over their maintenance. Guest/s shall take note that the Restaurant Manager allots the table for the group & same depends upon the group size and infrastructure of the restaurant.
  1. For Muslim guest, we arrange halal food wherever available. In India we don’t have halal certified restaurant. Hence,  if somewhere, halal food is not available then we arrange vegetarian food.

 

Meals:

  1. There is mostly a pre-set menu for meals depending on the tour program and on some destination we provide buffet meals in same hotel.

  2. Packed meals are served at some places.

  3. Company does not differentiate amongst the guest/s by providing a special meal or special diet.

 

Tour guide / Escorts on Tour:

  1. Tour Guide/assistants/escorts are assisting to the guest/s throughout the tour, they are not responsible for guest/s baggage or any kind of personal belongings.

  2. The guest/s themselves should carry their baggage. The instructions and information of the tour, are to be followed in the group tours and tour leaders is not responsible for any instructions overruled by the guest/s and its consequences.

 

Cancellation Policy:

  1. If guest wish to cancel the tour for any reason at any point of time whatsoever she/he shall give the request to the company within a specified time limit. Such cancellation would be chargeable as per the policy.
  1. Cancellation charges will be calculated on gross tour invoice and the cancellation charges shall depend on date of departure & the date of cancellation.
  1. Cancellation charges for any mode of transport ticket are applicable as per the rules of the concerned authority.
  1. If Air ticket issued on special fare are non-refundable and the guest shall bear the cancellation charges. Any refund payable to the guest will be paid after the company receives refund from the respective authorities. The company deducts processing charges from the refund which is to be paid to the guest.

Registration / booking amount

  1. The registration / booking amount paid at the time of booking is non refundable and interest free. Guests have to pay the full tour price as per the guidelines given in the brochure and as per approval of our travel consultant.

  2. If a Guest books a tour within 30 days prior to the departure date, he/she should make a payment of the entire amount Or most consult with our “Tour Manger” and according guest make the payment either by TT, Wire transfer, credit card or cash on arrival.

  3. Payments can be made via online and Offline both. For online payment, please logon to www.sumanyatours.com, book your desired tour and make payment online by using Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking (depend on international). For Offline payment, guest can pay by cheque /  Demand draft in favour of  “SUMANYA TRAVEL SERVICES PVT LTD”. For international guest, can transfer payment via TT, wire transfer, westernmoney, Cash on arrival. Our bank detail is mention below.

Travel Insurance:

  1. Insurance is not included in package cost.  Company strongly recommended to have a travel insurance of all guest travelling to India or any foreign country. Guest can contact to their travel insurance partner to his/her own country for travel insurance.
  1. Normally overseas Mediclaim Insurance covers hospitalization, medical emergencies and the loss of passport. Hence, for more detail, contact your travel insurance partner.
  1. For any claims, the insurance company shall be solely responsible for granting or rejecting claims and we do not have any hold over it. It is at a sole discretion of the respective company we are only facilitator. Also, insurance does not cover pre-diagnosed ailments. In case of foreign nationals, insurance will have to be obtained by the individuals on their own.

 

Itinerary Amendment:

  1. Company reserves the right to modify or alter the tour itinerary in case of any unavoidable circumstances such as hotel availability, climatic problem, flight cancellation or any whatever reason. Changes shall be informed to the guests at the earliest. Any additional charges, if applicable, are to be paid by the guest.
  1. In case company change or cancels a certain day's sightseeing, refund for the concerned portion of the sightseeing/tour shall be given to the guest. The Company will not be responsible for any kind of claims.
  1. The Company reserves the right to change (addition/deletion on exchange) sightseeing places for betterment of the tour programme.
  1. If sightseeing timings aren't adhered to, or if any add-ons are required then the same will be borne by the guests.

  2. Sightseeing days and closing of a particular monument are not in our hand, but we try our level best to cover all the sightseeing’s listed in the tour program in alternate
